All About Living Big In A Tiny House

Living Big In A Tiny House is a YouTube® based video series produced by Bryce Langston and his wife Rasa Pescud. Bryce and Rasa live in Auckland, New Zealand, but because of their show’s explosive popularity, they spend much of their time traveling. Recently they have been touring the United States, so many of their latest videos are more applicable to our living situations.

Their show works because they let us tour completed tiny homes and visit with the happy dwellers. His calm demeanor and professional on-screen presence gives us the hope that we too can solve our housing issues by living the tiny life.

The show does not delve too deeply into infrastructure systems or how to do it yourself, but it does expose you to ideas that seem to be working for tiny home dwellers. We have embedded several of his videos into this website. Then, as is our custom, we take a closer look at the guts of the systems.

The History of Living Big In A Tiny House

Here is his YouTube video showing his own tiny home and explaining some of his history:

Bryce is an actor by trade, but his talents also include musician and song writing. There are several YouTube® videos of his songs. He wrote the intro music for the show as well. Resa does all of the video editing and photography for the show.

More about Bryce and Resa from their website.

Building His Own Tiny Home

It took Bryce five years to complete his 160 sq. ft. tiny home, picking away at it during breaks in filming his show. He was able to complete the $100K project without going into debt. The house is ready to be off-grid using solar panels for power and collecting rain water but can be plugged into main power and water if desired.

He does not have a composting toilet yet, and there is no infrastructure for waste management that was shown. We assume there is some system for draining grey water, but that is left to our imagination.

His wood stove is the only source of heat, which, by his own admission, is way too much for the space.  I didn’t see any devices for air movement besides opening the windows, so I will assume there will be moisture issues once he spends more time there. I’m hoping the bed has an “Anti-Condensation Mattress Underlay.”

The kitchen would be barely functional for my needs but fits their current life style perfectly. He plans to grill meals outdoors when he stays there.

Here’s a YouTube® video of a tiny home they designed and recently completed that is meant for travel.
