Full-time RVing is more popular than ever. Even though mail service seems a bit old fashioned, a permanent address is required for more reasons than you might realize. This is one detail you need to handle before you take to the road.

How to Establish Permanent Residence When You Have a Mobile Lifestyle

Many aspects of life require a permanent address. For instance:

  • You are required to have a drivers license from the state you live in.
  • Your car must be registered in the state in which you reside.
  • You must have a permanent address to register to vote.
  • You must pay the taxes of the state you are registered in.
  • Your health insurance premiums and vehicle insurance premiums are based on the state in which you live.
  • Bank accounts and investments are tied to your permanent address.

Escapees RV Club Helps You Establish Permanent Residence in the State of your Choice

Join EscapeesEstablishing a permanent residence is actually a bit more complex than I ever knew. Technical terms like “Residence” and “Domicile” need to be understood and proper forms need to filed within the state you choose. Here is a blog that offers downloadable Domicile guides and checklists for three states.

Three states: Texas, Florida, and South Dakota, do not have income tax. This makes them advantageous for you to establish a residence there. But before you make a decision, know that health insurance options and rates are dependent on your zip code. Thorough research can prevent costly mistakes.

Mail Forwarding Services

There are several mail forwarding services, but I like to keep my services all in one place.

From their website: “The Escapees Mail Forwarding Service enables you to receive your mail, no matter where in North America you travel. When you subscribe, you’ll get a unique mailing address in Texas. You then give that address to anyone who sends you mail or packages by US Postal Service, UPS or FedEx. (They also offer addresses in South Dakota and Florida for legal domicile purposes.)

Escapees receives and holds your mail (including packages, certified, and registered mail) for you. When you’re ready to have your mail forwarded, just call, email, or send us instructions online with where you want us to send it. We’ll mail it out to you the next business day. If you’ll be in one place for a while, you can even ask us to forward your mail on a regular schedule.”

They will also scan each envelope and email you the image so you can decide if it’s important to forward or if it can just be dumped. This saves you the postage fees.

“For most members, the strong sense of inclusion in a community of like-minded people is the most valuable and long-lasting benefit of Escapees membership.”

Escapees RV Club offers many other services

Benefits of an Escapees RV Club membership include discounts to over 800 RV parks, a subscription to their 88 page bi-monthly magazine, and an RVer job exchange.

“The RVer Job Exchange matches job opportunities with traveling contract workers who want full or part-time work.” This is an excellent service for those of us who still want to or need to earn a living while on the road.

My RV Mail

MyRVMail
My RV Mail is another good mail forwarding service. They will receiver your mail at a Florida address (which can be used for residency purposes) and send a scanned image of the envelope the same day. If you need a copy of what’s inside the envelope they’ll do that, up to 20 copies per month. If you receive checks in the mail they will endorse them and mail them to your bank for deposit. My RV Mail will then send you your mail once a month anywhere you are.

The Full-Time RV Demographic is Changing

Join Escapees
Full-time RV living used to be the exclusive domain of retired, non-working individuals. Now, however,  with online jobs aplenty and telecommuting encouraged, younger working folks can work from anywhere they have a solid WiFi connection.

Xscapers is an RV community within the Escapees RV Club membership. Becoming a member of Escapees provides you with a total support network along with access into the Xscapers community.
